The Wise and Foolish Virgins

When Christ’s disciples asked Him about events that would happen at “the end of the world”, Jesus gave them this warning:

(Luke 21:34-36) "And TAKE HEED TO YOURSELVES, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting [excessive appetites], and drunkenness, and cares of this life [by overworking for the things of this world that perish - Matt 6:19-21], and so THAT DAY [of the Rapture] come upon you UNAWARES. 35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 WATCH YE THEREFORE, and PRAY ALWAYS, that ye MAY BE ACCOUNTED WORTHY TO ESCAPE all these things [recorded in the Book of Revelation] that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man [so as to be accounted a good and faithful servant - Matt 25:20-22]."

God’s “wise virgins” throughout the past 2,000-years have taken heed of this warning and have (as each being a disciple of Jesus Christ - John 13:35) prepared themselves with the needed amount of “oil” that is necessary to “…ESCAPE all these things that shall come to pass”.

It is the ‘oil’ and these additional supplies that born-again Christians (John 3:8) carry with them that defines the differences between the two groups of God’s people, as stated in the passage below:

"Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. {8} And THE FOOLISH SAID UNTO THE WISE, GIVE US OF YOUR OIL; for our lamps are gone out. {9} But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. {10} And while they [the foolish] went to buy, the bridegroom [Jesus] came [in the Rapture]; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut." (Matt 25:7-10)

What then represents the “oil” that both virgins had, but the Foolish had an insufficient quantity of?

First, it must be understood what the symbolism of the parable represents.

  1. “Virgins” refers to anyone who professes to be a Christian.
  2. “Lamps” refers to their mouths that produce Biblical truth (or spiritual ‘light’).
  3. “Oil” refers to Bible-based spiritual truths contained in “sound doctrine’.
  4. “…them that sell” refers to life’s experiences needed to prove truth from error.
  5. The bridegroom” refers to Jesus appearing in the clouds at the Rapture.
  6. The marriage” refers to the marriage supper of the Lamb (Rev 19:7-9).

Next, the “oil” represents Bible truths that each have obtained through studying of the scriptures (2 Tim 2:15) and by applying what was learned to events in life. Bible truths are symbolized as “oil”, because oil enable light to shine forth from the lamp.

'Oil' is also obtained through personal instruction from God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, as stated below:

God the Father
"It is written in the prophets, And they [every born-again Christian] shall be ALL TAUGHT [personally] of God [the Father]. Every man therefore that hath HEARD, and hath LEARNED OF THE FATHER, cometh unto me." (John 6:45)
God the Son
"My sheep HEAR MY VOICE, and I KNOW THEM, and THEY FOLLOW ME: {28} And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10:27-28) – Jesus speaking.
God the Holy Spirit
"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL TRUTH…and he will show you things to come." (John 16:13)

An example of the quantity of ‘oil’ that each virgin carries can be symbolized by the Gospel message variations found amongst today’s churches. In this claim, most traditional Christians recognize that Jesus Christ was “begotten in eternity” prior to His immaculate conception; His death, His burial and His resurrection, which represents the minimal quantity of spiritual “oil” needed to light each virgin’s lamp.

Sadly, many of today's foolish virgins have failed to obtain any in-depth Biblical knowledge related to the many doctrines found in scripture.  The following passage of scripture illustrates just one example of the additional quantity of “oil” that any 'wise virgin' would “carry” whereas a 'foolish virgin' would not carry such truth:

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers [in the churches], walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his [Christ’s Second] coming? for since the [Jewish] fathers [Abraham, Isaac, etc.] fell asleep [died], all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of OLD [of the world that sustained the pre-historic world], and [after its judgment by God – Gen 1:2 and Jer 4:23-26 below] the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby THE WORLD THAT THEN WAS [or the original heavens and earth], being overflowed with water, perished [because of sin and rebellion by Lucifer]: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are NOW [the original heavens in judgment and the “replenished” earth – Gen 1 and 2], by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3:3-7)

I beheld the [original] earth [in a state of judgment from God as described in Gen 1:2], and, lo, it was without form [as it should have been a sphere], and void [of life or any recognizable features]; and the heavens, and they [meaning the solar system’s planets] had no light [meaning the only light seen was from volcanoes and lava flows]. 24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled [because of huge earthquakes], and all the hills moved lightly [through volcanic lava flows]. 25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man [to be seen], and all the birds of the heavens were fled. 26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.” (Jer 4:23-26)

The numbers on the illustration are identified below:

  1. The Original Earth (Gen 1:1)
  2. The Original Earth in a state of judgment from God (Jer 4:23-26)
  3. The Restored Earth - as recorded in Genesis chapters 1 and 2
  4. The Millennial (1,000-year) period where Jesus Christ rules the current (Restored) Earth (Rev 20:4)
  5. The renovation of the Restored Earth by fire (2 Peter 3:10-14)
  6. The New Heavens and the New Earth (Rev 21:1)

It has been my experience that most Christians today are ignorant of the above Biblical truths because they have been kept ignorant of the greater spiritual truths God wants them to know (Mark 4:10-13) by being told that such teachings cannot be proven; and that entering into such discussion only generates arguments. Most fail to appreciate that God did not write about these events in scripture without a purpose (Col 1 :26-27)!

(Matt 13:11-12)  "He [Jesus] answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you [the Wise Virgins] to know THE MYSTERIES of the kingdom of heaven, but to them [the Foolish Virgins] it is not given. {12} For whosoever hath [additional 'oil'], to him shall be given [more 'oil'], and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not [additional 'oil'], from him shall be taken away even that he hath."

Biblical truths like those above taught by each person of the Trinity to each of their children on earth oppose Christianity’s modern beliefs and practices found in the churches.  This is because much of what is taught in churches today opposes the holiness required by God for people to secure eternal life with Christ and of the importance of being found to be a “a good and faithful servant” of Jesus Christ:

(Heb 12:14-16) "Follow peace with all men, and HOLINESS, without which no man shall see the Lord: {15} LOOKING DILIGENTLY lest any [Christian] man FAIL OF THE GRACE OF GOD; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many [Christians] be defiled; {16} Lest there be any fornicator, or profane [Christian] person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright."

(Matt 12:50) "For whosoever shall DO THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother [or ‘family’ – Gal 4:1-7]."

A genuine child of God in today’s church will use all the resources available to analyze Biblical claims so as to determine what is true and false doctrine; and in doing so become “approved of God”.

For the time [in these “last days”] will come when they [today’s Christians] will not endure SOUND [Bible-based] DOCTRINE; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves [false] teachers, having itching ears [to hear more of their lies that oppose scripture]; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from THE TRUTH, and [sound Biblical doctrine] shall be turned unto [dumbed-down] fables [in the churches].” (2 Tim 4:3-4)

For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved [by God] may be made manifest among you.” (1 Cor 11:18-19)

Such personal training offered by each person of the Trinity delivers to each of God’s children on earth the required ‘wisdom’ that separates Christians amongst “The Wise” and "The Foolish” virgins. Naturally, it is Satan’s purpose to prevent Christians obtaining God's wisdom by keeping all Christians as 'Foolish Virgins' through manitaining faith in their religious beliefs (2 Thes 2:15; Col 2:8).

Therefore, learning and then doing God’s will that allows His child on earth to develop trust in Him and His word that reveals Biblical truths helps provide the additional quantities of the “oil” that will be needed by the ‘Wise Virgins’ in the not too distant future.
