Summary of Mark Biltz's Analysis of the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse

What does a Total Solar Eclipse mean in relation to Bible prophecy?

To understand this question, the following points should be considered:

  • Does the eclipse relate to the dates in the Biblical Calendar?
  • Where on the earth does it occur?
  • Patterns should be examined to see if the eclipse aligns with past historical events.

Symbolically speaking, the Sun represents the nations of the world because nations other than Israel follow the movements of the Sun as the basis of their calendar; whereas the Moon represents the nation of Israel because their calendar months are based on the cycle of the Moon.

Not every solar eclipse should be seen as a sign from God; nevertheless, God uses solar eclipses as warnings to the nations whose paths the eclipse crosses.  The prophetic significance is heightened when the eclipse falls on a significant Biblical calendar date.

With reference to Jonah and his message of warning to the Ninevites (Jonah 1:1 - 4:11), the eclipse in August 2017 is similar to the Bur-Segale Eclipse that occurred near Nineveh 3-years prior to Jonah’s arrival to the city in 763BC.

Prior to this, Nineveh had experienced plagues and civil wars, so that when he warned them that God was going to destroy the city unless they repented, the king and the city were ready to comply with this demand.  Mark claimed that Jonah arrived on the 1st Day of Elul (in the Jewish calendar), which is 40-days before Yom Kippor and which represents the first of 40-days remaining in which to repent before God's judgments commence.

Mark also claims that Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist on the 1st Elul prior to Him going into the wilderness for 40-days.  He said it is also the same 1st of Elul that Moses went up upon Mount Sinai for 40-days to get the second set of commandments from God; arriving in the camp below on Yom Kippur.  The 1st of Elul is significant because it is saying that God provides 40-days of repentance by withholding His judgments if the people comply.

Another similar historical pattern relates to the 400-year old Ottoman Empire that was well established in Turkey, Iraq and Syria prior to World War 1.  On 21st August 1914, the path of a total solar eclipse passed over Eastern Europe, together with the Ottoman Empire that included Nineveh in Iraq.  This was the sign of Eastern Europe’s involvement in the coming destruction of the Ottoman Empire in WW1.

The similarity between the Ottoman Empire and the USA solar eclipses is that they both occur on August 21 and the both occur on the 1st Elul – a clear warning to the Americans that God requires repentance before judgment comes.

On 6th April 1917, the USA entered WW1.  On June 6th 1918, America suffered its first major defeat in war at the battle of Belo Wood against the Germans where 5,000 US servicemen from the 2nd Infantry Division died.  Two days later on 8th June 2018, a total solar eclipse occurred across America that took an almost identical path as to the one that occurred recently across the USA.  This was the last time the USA has experienced a total solar eclipse across its continent.

The message here is that ALL people across the USA need to repent, or judgment will come.

What is unique about Monday’s eclipse, is that 7-years from now on 8th April 2024, another total solar eclipse will make its way across America beginning in the south (Texas) and ending in the North East (Maine).  The place where the two paths cross will occur very near to St. Louis Missouri.

Also, the 8th of April is significant, because it falls on the 1st of Nisan – the start of the Jewish Biblical year – which was a time when fire fell from Heaven and when the tabernacle of Moses was dedicated.

Where the two eclipse pathways cross, their pattern forms the letter Tav (pronounced Tor) in the ancient Hebrew alphabet, from which is reasonable to assume that this sign indicates the eclipse is a message from God to the American people.

Thirty-three days following the 2017 eclipse on 23rd September, the Rev 12:1-2 celestial event will occur in the heavens – “…the woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet and a crown of 12-stars on her head”.  She was with child and cried out in pain to give birth.

It is on this date that three planets from our solar system align with the 9 stars within the Leo constellation to provide the 12 bright stars for this event, together with the sun on her shoulder and the moon under her feet.  Virgo (the woman) represents Israel; her crown represents the 12 Tribes of Israel.

In Biblical terms, the number 70 is very significant.  Pastor Biltz mentioned several significant Biblical events that related to this number.

He also stated that Psalm 20 is read every morning by religious Jews after their morning prayers.  Why is Psalm 20 so significant?  It is because the Psalm contains 70 Hebrew words.  The Jews say this relates to the 70–years of travail and suffering referred to in the classic texts of the birth pangs of the Messiah.  So they see the birth pangs of the Messiah lasting 70-years, whereas Christians see Israel being birthed in May 1948 and almost 70-years later, the celestial sign of the woman is pointing to the birth pangs of the Messiah occurring in 2018.

Verses 1 through 9 of Psalm 20 talk about “…may the Lord answer you in the day of trouble” – the day referred to being the Time of Jacob’s Trouble or the Tribulation period as Christians know it.

(Jer 30:6-7)  "Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? {7} Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it."

Mark believes that these are signs in the heavens for us to look up at while keeping our eye on Israel as events unfold around the 70th Anniversary of Israel’s nationhood in 2018.
